Biographies

Frank S. Miklos (ERA 2752), President

Frank has been an active member in the ERA since 1962 and a contributing editor of Headlights for many years. He also holds membership in the National Railway Historical Society (NRHS), Branford Electric Railway Assn., Boston Street Railway Assn. (BSRA), Market Street Railway Assn., Friends of the New Jersey Transportation Heritage Center, North Jersey Electric Railway Historical Society, Friends of Philadelphia Trolleys (FPT), and the Electric City Trolley Museum. He has a B.S. in Marketing Management from St. Peter’s College. He retired from NJ Transit in December 2002 after a career of more than 30 years in the public transit industry.

William K. Guild (ERA 6324), First Vice-President

A graduate of Princeton and the Harvard Law School, Bill is in general practice specializing in intellectual property law. He completed his military service as an artillery officer in the Army Reserve. He has studied and written extensively on various rail projects, contributed to a number of rail-related publications and currently chairs the Permanent Citizens’ Advisory Committee to the MTA (PCAC). He has also served as a director of the Committee for Better Transit and as a member of the Transportation Committee of the City Bar Association. He is currently the Sprague librarian and a member of the Information Technology Committee. Bill served as third vice-president and recording secretary of the ERA from 1994 through 2006.

Raymond R. Berger (ERA 2298), Second Vice-President and Corresponding Secretary

A very active member of the ERA since 1958, Raymond has served in various elected and appointed positions in the both the ERA and the New York Division. For many years he worked at the national headquarters in the circulation of Headlights. He was division chairman from 1980 to 1987 and then served continuously as either director or vice-chairman until 2000. He has worked on the Division Bulletin almost continuously since its inception. An avid enthusiast of electric railways, particularly in urban settings, he has inspected transit properties in over 90 countries and presented his findings at many Division slideshows. Raymond graduated from St. Peter’s College with a B.S. degree in management and retired from NYC Transit after 37 years in car equipment engineering. Since being designated publication sales manager by the ERA Board of Directors in January 2001, he has worked with the treasurers to reduce inventory. He continues to keep correspondence up-to-date by giving timely responses to all letters the club receives.

Robert J. Newhouser (ERA 4099), Third Vice-President and Recording Secretary

A member of ERA since 1970, Bob is a graduate of MIT and has worked in the transit and transportation planning profession for 30 years. He is currently senior director of bus service planning at NYC Transit. As a member of the ERA Board, Bob is interested in promoting membership development and retention, railfan trips and streamlined club operations including the merger of the national and New York Division into a single, efficient organization.

Sandy Campbell (ERA 5228), Membership Secretary

A graduate of Parsons School of Design, Sandy is a freelance design consultant and photographer from New York City. He has been a rail fan most of his life and a member of the ERA since the early 1980s. He became editor and art director of Headlights in 1996 and has produced 20 issues since then, culminating with the San Diego issue. In 2001 Sandy helped form the IT committee with Bill Guild to create and maintain this website. Sandy was elected membership secretary in 2005 and has served three terms. His own website, Sandy Campbell Design, is an online portfolio of his design work for the ERA and other corporations.

Michael Glikin (ERA 3028), Treasurer

A member of ERA since 1963, Michael previously held office as director of ERA. He has served as a member of the New York Division board for many years and treasurer since 1990. He is a transportation industry professional with almost 40 years experience as a transportation planner, light rail operations planner and transit scheduler.

Jeffrey B. Erlitz (ERA 3997), Director (2008)

Jeff has been a member of ERA since 1970 and has worked in the transportation planning field since 1978. He previously served as membership secretary for the ERA and was part of the team that transitioned the organization from paper-based membership records to the computerized database which is in use today. Jeff also helped organize and operate several rail excursions such as the 2003 trip to the Czech Republic. In recent years he has been an active member of the New York Division Board of Directors in the capacity of recording secretary. As director on the ERA Board of Directors in 2008, Jeff promoted the merging of the operations of the national organization and New York Division into a single club.

John Pappas (ERA 6777), Director (2009)

John has been a member of ERA since 2000 and is actively involved with the production of Headlights. He is also a member of the Market Street Railway Assn., Orange Empire Railway Museum, Western Railway Museum, Motor Bus Society, and Light Rail Transit Assn. (LRTA). He has been a professional within the transit industry for 40 years, including most recently as the senior director of schedules at NYC Transit. He currently heads a transit operations consulting practice.
